Why am I seeing tiktok “punks” criticizing other punks vest, jackets, and pants because they don’t have any punk bands patches on them? You know you don’t need to have band patches right? Who tf are you the punk police?

So…I usually prefer to stay off of tiktok. But my band is starting to do the whole Social Media Presence thing, and tiktok is probably the biggest social media currently.
We recently starting posting parts of our songs from practice. The first video took off, over a thousand views within the first few hours. We got a hundred followers in a day with one video.
Being an openly all-trans band, I was not surprised when Lexi said that they had they immediately shadowbanned us after that. The second we got tagged as LGBTQ anything, our viewership vanished. Lexi tried to promote the video, and we were rejected for “violating community guidelines”.
You can very clearly see when we got banned. For a moment, before we were artificially suppressed, we started getting a small audience and great feedback. Then we went immediately into the crusher.
Tumblr media
Social media is a deal maker for upstarting creators. If you don’t have a massive following and interaction, no one will pick up your work. These algorithms can take that chance away from you.
Anyways, fuck you tiktok. If you want to support trans creators, if you do the tiktok thing, if you like hot jams and punk, give us a listen and tell us what you think!

What band is considered the best folk punk group of all time?
Not necessarily your favorite, but the overall best in your opinion or in the opinion of the general community or both. I must know.

Today I was reminded once again that you shouldn't neglect any section of the charity shop. Given my music taste its super rare that I come across any shirts for a band I like, however today in the men's t-shirts....
Tumblr media
I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of The Damned at this point in my life (I'm nowhere near as into them as I am some other groups) but they are nonetheless an extremely important band for me, as they gave me one of those seminal moments you sometimes get with music where you know nothing is gonna be quite the same for you again after.
It was seeing them perform their song "Nasty" on the TV show The Young Ones. I knew of The Damned before this because my mum was a punk back in the 1970s and had played me some of their music, but before Nasty I had no real concept of goth music. Although strictly speaking The Damned aren't goth, by the mid 80s when that show was filmed they were leaning into that aesthetic very heavily with Dave Vanian's massive backcombed hair, frock coats and fangs. Most goths have a lot of respect for The Damned.
Throughout their performance I was 👀 👀 👀 and after that a whole world opened up for me.
I should probably share it here in case anyone hasn't seen it:
youtube
The shirt was £7 which is more than I'd usually spend on a charity shop t shirt, but how often does one find something like this? I couldn't leave it behind.
Its enormous on me so I'll have to do some resizing but I enjoy that process 😁
To balance things out, I also got a dress for £2. Muddy grey/green which is a colour I love and fits me perfectly! Great for an orphaned waif look.

PUNKS PLS HELP
Hi! Im kind of a puppy punk (i hope people actually use that term lmao), and im having trouble finding punk music. I've already got a pretty good amount of riot girl (the genre, not the band) on my playlist but i want to diversify it! Im just really frustrated, because every time i try to find more punk bands they're either pop punk, not punk AT ALL, or just not really my style. If the punk community on tumblr could give me some band/song recommendations I'd really appreciate it! I won't be too picky, but if you want specifics, im looking especially for anti-cop, anti-capitalist, anti-nazi, pro-queer, pro-jew, pro-cripple bands/songs. I'll link the playlist under the cut too :)

This from a friend but
Ttrpgs about forming a punk/garage band?
THEME: Punk Bands
Hello friend! I have a few really interesting band ttrpgs here. I don’t think any of them are specifically about punk bands, but they should still do the trick!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sold Out Show, by Nine Lives Games.
Inspired by 'Two Summers', in Sold Out Show your group is a band taking part in a 'Behind the Music'-style documentary recounting key moments in their shared history before their final reunion show. One player takes on the role of Director and decides what key moments the band will relive, and what challenges they faced.
A diceless game where the character sheets change at least once a session 'Sold Out Show' is a game about relationships to one another changing through time and how we leave behind who we were to become who we are.
Sold Out Show plays with time, focusing on a band at a reunion, and filling in their backstory as you play. You will create relationships between your characters, and likely change them as time goes on, using scenes defined by the cards you pull from a regular deck. You will also use tokens to help your characters meet challenges that arise over the life of the band, whether those challenges represent technical issues, arguments between the band, or the stressors of touring on the road. If you want to fit pieces of a story together in reverse, creating nostalgia as you go, you might like this game.
Musicality, by GrimPuppet.
Ever have the dream of musical stardom? You can fulfill it with Musicality, a 2-5 player TTRPG that only uses 1d6 to help you fulfill your goal.
Create a character, including instrument and flaw, and have your manager book you gigs. Musicality is a highly creative game that gives a highly customizable experience.
I think that Musicality has the flexibility to represent various music genres, although you are expected to have a lead singer, a guitarist, a drummer, and a bassist. The main goal of the game appears to be focused on gaining abstract points after every gig you play. Each character sheet has a score tracker and a stat wheel that looks kind of like a bulls-eye.
There’s also a character flaw that you have to choose for your character, although I’m not entirely sure how it manifests in regards to gaining points. Once you get 50 points, you’ve achieved super-stardom, so if you want a story about trying to make it or break it, maybe check out Musicality.
Band Van Jam!, by Chase.
Your band is now faced with record low funds and need to make one last ditch effort to turn their dreams around!
Best buds grab the biggest, cheapest car amongst you that can fit the instruments, and hit the road to get some Fans and Money! The catch is, you have only a certain amount of time before the promise of fame is unattainable.
Get the Band Together, Get your Ride, Get Driving, Get a Gig, and then Perform your way to stardom!…Hopefully! Because after your time limit is up, it's time to Check the Records, and see if you’re successful!
Another submission to the big ol’ One Page Jam 2024, I think one of my favourite things about this game is the d6 table for the ride you have to get you from gig to gig. You spend your time touring to try and get money and fan points, while occasional setbacks and opportunities pop up with the roll of a d12.
Whenever you have a gig, you roll your performance against the difficulty of the crowd, with the difficulty increasing as you go, to represent the competition getting stiffer. Good luck!
Get to the Gig, by Em Hubbard.
Get to the Gig is a one-page TTRPG for 4-5 players and a GM. You play as members of a band who have are about to have their big break, if only they can make it to the show!
One of the bands bailed out of the big show tonight. You and your band have a chance to fill that spot. This could be your big break! All you have to do is get to the show on time and play your heart out. What could go wrong?
The mechanic that stands out the most to me in Get to the Gig is the Power Chord, which is meant to represent your character’s level of angst and energy. Your Power Chord will increase every time you achieve an awesome success or an epic failure, as well as when the GM finds a good moment to increase it. Should your group make it to the gig on time, you’ll roll against your power chord - and hope you rock on! If you want a simple game that has everything you need on one page, you want this game.
Sound Check, by Misha Grifka Wander.
Sound Check is a game about being in a band. Rehearse, party, get interviewed and get intimate - but don't forget, it's all leading up to one thing: the Big Show. Each player will have their own musician with a unique playbook, but everyone works together to tell the story of an up-and-coming band, in any musical genre you like.
Sound Check runs on the Firebrands system, an intuitive and easy-to-learn TTRPG format that lets players choose minigames with custom prompts and options so you can tell the kind of story you're most interested in. The ideal number of players is 3-6. It was written with one or two session games in mind, but it's possible to play it for longer by doing multiple rounds of minigames.
Sound Check focuses on the relationships and the drama of a band’s life together, and uses some familiar concepts from Firebrands games, such as playbooks and mini-games to structure both your characters and play.
It also has a unique mechanic, called Exploding, which reminds me of some of my favourite mechanics from other story-games. Your character accumulates Stress over the course of the mini games, through various events as well as their specific stress trigger. When you Explode, you do something harmful to yourself or the group, and then clear all of your stress token. I love the way this kind of mechanic creates a dramatic rhythm, providing emotional highs and lows to add the right amount of tension to the story.
If you want to play though the story of a band while also taking opportunities to allow your characters to make the worst possible choices, you might want to check out Sound Check!

Hey, welcome to the local band Dropbox! If you want others to know about a little band that you love, but they’ve only ever done shows 10 minutes away from where you live and you don’t feel like doxxing yourself, here you go!

HOW TO SUBMIT A BAND
Tumblr media
FAQ:
Do you take “non western” bands?
Absolutely! But, if they’re not on western music streaming/pirating platforms, or their websites are not in English, I will be more limited in ways I can make them accessible. You would need to provide those links. I will tag with the town/city and country.
What counts as a local band?
To avoid the goddamn minefield this question is, if you’re considering submitting them, just go for it. If I don’t think it’s local enough, who cares. We’re here to share music, and if they have 5 listeners or 5,000 listeners, someone could enjoy their music. Though I will suggest, if you’d feel comfortable posting about them without feeling like you’re doxxing yourself, I’d suggest blogging about them on your main.
Can I submit solo artists?
Yep!
Is self promo okay?
As long as you disclose that you are part of the band, and you follow the general guidelines, go right ahead :)
